In a bizarre incident of violence, a 10-month old baby girl was seen being beaten up by an employee at a daycare center in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. In a CCTV footage, Afsana Shiekh, the 30-year old daycare employee was seen ruthlessly hitting the baby girl and also throwing her on the floor.
Following an FIR registered by the mother of the child, the daycare employee and her employer Priyanka Nikam were arrested by the police, on Thursday. The two were booked under the charges of voluntarily causing hurt, common intention and other sections under the Juveline Justice Act.
Ruchita Sinha, the mother of 10-month old Ritisha had dropped her girl child at the daycare center at sector 10 in Khargar on Monday morning. Later in the evening when she came to pick her daughter, Ruchita saw bruises surrounding the eyes of her baby but on her enquiry on what happened Afsana Shiekh dismissed all her doubts.

And as the bruises and behavioural change in the baby became more visible over the last two days, Ruchita approached the police to register complaint. Later a medical test directed by the Kharghar police, also confirmed the bruises and an FIR was launched against the daycare employee and her employer.
However, even after CCTV footage confirming the assault, Afsana kept denying the charges against her. Local court had ordered judicial custody for both the accused.
