Speaking at event organised by India TV, Union Textile Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani today took a dig at some senior Congress leaders who have, in the past, attacked Narendra Modi and had alleged that the prime minister had not fulfilled the promises he made after coming into power. Irani slammed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi over his accusation that PM Modi does not allow anyone to speak and everyone is scared of him. Taking a dig at Gandhi, Irani said, “We eagerly wait for him to speak and he always speaks. However, there has to be substance in one’s statement”.

Watch here what she said:

Further countering Gandhi’s statement that PM Modi promised to give 1 crore jobs every year but it never happened and instead companies like Wipro and Infosys have fired 56,000 employees, Irani said to a pointed question during the India TV conclave, “There is no possible way to get accurate employment data in the country. I think Rahul Gandhi is not aware of this. Now these figures that he is providing, from where have they come from, which agency?”

Further in the dialogue, Irani took a pot shot at senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal for his “gift bangle to PM Modi” statement. Irani said, “Kapil Sibal is always interested in my bangles.” Expressing his anger towards the barbaric killing and mutilation of two Indian soldiers, Sibal, had last week, asked that if Union Minister Smriti Irani would now gift bangles to PM Modi as she had wanted to send to former PM Manmohan Singh after similar killings in 2013. “During the UPA regime there was a woman MP (Smriti Irani) who said the Prime Minister should be gifted bangles. Will the same MP who is now a Minister send bangles to Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Indian Express quoted Sibal as asking.
