The Rajya Sabha member of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tapan Kumar Sen on Tuesday said the demise of people like Sister Nirmala who lived not for herself but for the entire society is a great loss to the society.
“Any death is a matter of loss, particularly when people like Sister Nirmala who has lived not for herself but for the entire society, particularly for the children. She played an important in running the institution. So, definitely it is a loss to the society. We express all condolence,” Sen told ANI.
Nirmala Joshi, better known as Sister Nirmala had replaced Mother Teresa as the superior general in 1997.
Born to a Brahmin soldier in Ranchi hailing from Nepal, Sister Nirmala had joined the Order at the age of 17.
She was later succeeded by German-born Sister Mary Prema.
Her mortal remains will be kept in Kolkata’s St John’s Church till tomorrow afternoon.
