Shopian encounter: In a major success for counter-terrorism operation, two unidentified terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to reports. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Wanipora area of Shopian yesterday evening following information about presence of militants in the area, an Army official said. He said the search operation turned into an encounter as militants opened firing towards the security forces. “Two militants have been killed so far and the operation is still in progress,” the official said. It has been learnt that on Monday evening the troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police surrounded a house on a tip off. The intelligence reports said that about two to three militants were hiding in that house, police said. Police sources said two militants were killed in the encounter and one soldier sustained a minor injury. The house in which the militants were hiding was destroyed during the gunfight, reports say. Meanwhile, Munir Khan, IGP Kashmir said, “Operation has been concluded. One Army Jawan and one police personnel injured during the operation.”
Earlier on November 30, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pakherpora area of central Kashmirs Budgam district, the Army said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Futlipora in Pakherpora area, 45 kms from here, following information about presence of militants in the area, an Army official said.
He said the militants opened fire on security forces, who retaliated, triggering a fierce gunbattle. “Three militants were killed in the gunbattle,” the official said adding the operation was still in progress. Police sources said a security force personnel sustained injuries during the operation while two civilian youth were hurt in security forces action against protestors who were trying to disrupt the anti-militancy operation.
