An encounter in Shopian of Jammu and Kashmir saw one militant being killed and a soldier injured on Saturday. It was reported earlier that 2 terrorists had been holed up in the encounter between the Indian security forces and militants. An army official told HT that the injured soldier was evacuated from the spot of the encounter and was safe now. According to ANI, local residents found the sound of gunfire on Saturday morning as security forces surrounded the Dubjan area in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
It has to be noted that this is a joint operation between the Indian army and the police against terrorists and was still active as this report was being filed. This the second attack in a matter of hours since a police party was attacked by armed militants on the night fo Friday. The police party was on its way for the investigation of gunshots that were heard in the village of Dadsara in Awantipora region of Pulwama district. A sub-inspector was injured in the attack on Friday night.
A police official told the Hindu that the police was joined by security forces after being informed about the presence of 4 militants in the Dubjan village. He further said that the militants went on attacking as the security forces closed in on them, in an attempt to flee.
