In a bizarre incident, a tribal man from Odisha carried his elderly parents on a scale-like wicker basket contraption and walked as much as 40 km on bare foot, seeking justice in an alleged fake case against him. Kartik Singh, who hails from the district of Mayurbhanj in Odisha, claimed that in 2009 the police had put him behind the bars lodging a fake FIR against him. Singh said he was jailed for 18 days. Now, he took his parents to appeal for justice before the judge. He said he can’t leave his parents alone, therefore, he is carrying them. Singh added that he doesn’t have money to board transportation vehicles. Making an emotional appeal, Kartik said, all he wants is to prove himself as ‘not guilty’ in the eyes of his old parents before they pass away.
“I have come here with my parents to appeal for justice before the judge. I have been wrongly accused in a harassment case but I have no idea about the woman. My attempt will at least let the judge know about how innocent people like me are implicated falsely,” Kartik was quoted as saying by ANI. “Kartik is drowned so much in debt that he cannot feed his parents or himself,” said Kumar Patra, an advocate and social activist.

Kartik even asked the district collector for a job as the society has abandoned him but received no response, he added. Another advocate, Prabhudan Marandi said, “It is not the first time something like this is happening. Several false cases are being filed.” Patra also pointed out that the state and the Central government have several schemes for the upliftment of backward classes. “But everything is out of the reach of Kartik,” he added.
“The state and the Central government have several schemes for the upliftment of the socially and financially backward classes, but everything is out of his reach and the Government representatives or political parties have not noticed anything,” Patra said.
