Most of us have heard about the bed of roses, but have you ever heard of beds of currency notes, that too demonetised notes? The Uttar Pradesh Police and NIA on Wednesday seized demonetised currency notes estimated to be worth Rs 100 crore in Kanpur. These notes were being used as 3 beds. The whopping amount of Rs 100 crore has been seized during raids from a Kanpur builder Anand Khatri. Reportedly, the Rs 100 crore amount was being used as beds at Kanpur builder Anand Khatri’s Swaroop Nagar residence. According to Anand Kumar, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law & order), demonetised currency of Rs 500 & Rs 1000 have been recovered and 16 people have been arrested till now: Acting on a tip-off, the NIA and UP police raided his residence and seized the big amount of Rs 100 crore in demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
“We received information of the presence of demonetised currency worth crores at a person’s residential premises in Kanpur. A raid was conducted by teams of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Income Tax (IT) department officials. We are interrogating the people involved,” A.K. Meena, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) told ANI.
