With the on-going judicial proceedings on criminal turned politician Mohammed Shahabuddin, the accused had, today, filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court. The murder accused had also appealed for a CBI investigation into the relation of accused Mohammad Kaif and the slain journalist Rajdeo Rajan and others.
A two time MLA and four times Member of Parliament from Siwan constituency, Mohammad Shahabuddin, had been in jail for more than 10 years in connection with multiple cases including the murder of a man who witnessed the killing of his two brothers in Siwan. The gangster politician, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment in two cases by trial courts, came out of jail, in bail, on September 7 but was sent back after the apex court quashed his bail. Shahabuddin was arrested from his official MP’s residence in New Delhi on November 2005 by a joint team of Bihar and Delhi police.
Shahabuddin got linked with the murder senior journalist Rajdeo Rajan, after photographs of the politician with the murder suspects Mohammad Kaif and Mohammad Rajan came into limelight. The Hindustan’s bureau chief, Rajdeo Rajan was shot dead i July this year at Phal Mandi near Siwan railway station. While CBI is investigating the case, Kaif had denied of any connection with the journalist’s murder.
Earlier, the Supreme court heard a plea from Rajan’s widow wife, asking for the shift of the accused politician to Tihar jail from Siwan, citing the possibilities of witnesses of her husband’s murder getting influenced in the gangster’s stronghold. The next Supreme Court hearing on the case is on November 28.
