The Supreme Court said that it will hear Chandrakeshwar Prasad’s plea, challenging Patna High Court’s order granting bail to former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, on September 19. Chandrakeshwar Prasad of Siwan had filed an appeal in the apex court on this. Chandrakeshwar’s three sons were allegedly murdered by gangster-turned politician Shahabuddin. “I didn’t ask for ‘chanda’ as Shahbuddin is saying, I am asking for government help,” Chandrakeshwar Prasad said. Meanwhile, in a separate case related to the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, Shahabuddin too was under the scanner of Bihar Police which was probing the case till recently. Shortly after getting released, Shahabuddin said, “My leader is Lalu Yadav and I know him personally for 28 years.” He dismissed Nitish Kumar as a “Chief Minister of circumstance.”
Opposition parties in Bihar led by BJP and The Lok Janshakti Party have continued to maintain that Shahabuddin walking free is an indication that ‘Jungle-Raj’ is back in Bihar. Many opposition leaders have questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s inaction towards former Shahabuddin. “JD (U) leaders need to answer as to what action they are going to take against Shahabuddin. All eyes on Nitish. Why is he silent and what action is he going to take,” LJP leader Chirag Paswan told ANI.
