Satyawan Sehrawat aka Sonu Dariyapur, Delhi’s most wanted criminal was captured by police after a dramatic chase and shootout in Narela, outer Delhi on Thursday morning. Authorities were hunting for Sonu in connection with 10 cases comprising of a triple murder involving friends-turned-foe Monu Dariyapur in April, As per Hindustan Times report. Monu and his friend were shot dead in the attack, added the report.
A reward of Rs 5 lakh was announced by Delhi police, the highest yet to anyone providing information on Sonu’s whereabouts, the report added. Moreover, a bounty of Rs 50,000 was placed on his head by the Haryana police.
Sonu has been on run since 2009 when he jumped parole. As per HT report, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police said the gangster was coming back to Delhi from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh to meet an associate, Vijay Lamba, when special cell investigators intercepted his white Hyundai i20 around 5 am. He added,”A concerned Sonu pulled out a pistol and fired twice at inspector Vinay Kumar and assistant sub-inspector Shiv Mangal. However, the two police officers escaped unhurt because they were wearing bulletproof vests.”
Following the incident, the police team opened fire in retaliation after which Sonu surrendered. As per HT report, other than the Hyundai i20, two pistols and 17 cartridges were seized by the police. The report added that Sonu made money through extortion from cable operators, bookies, and booth operators. Among those counted as his henchman are Manjeet Mahal, Naveen Khatri, and Samunder Khatri.
