Sahara India Pariwar chief Subrata Roy’s presence at the prize distribution ceremony of the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup created a mild flutter today. Roy was bestowed the honour of presenting the medals to the runners-up Belgium while Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav presented the trophy to hosts India. Roy was later part of the champion team’s group photograph. Roy was in Tihar jail since March 2014 on charges of money laundering and has been on parole since earlier this year.

With an aggressive performance in the finals of the Junior World Cup, the Indian junior hockey team, today, recreated history, winning the tournament for the second time after 15 years.

After a sensational performance at the semi-finals, defeating the Australian squad 4-2, the Indian junior hockey team exhibited their best at the finals against Belgium, today, at the Dhyan Chand Stadium in Lucknow. Having earlier won the trophy fifteen years back, in 2001, this was India’s third time in the final of the junior hockey World Cup.
