The political firmament may well be divided over PM Narendra Modi’s move to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes effective Tuesday midnight, but at least 2 godmen have come out in his favour. One of them is yoga guru and entrepreneur Baba Ramdev and the other, today, is Sadhguru. According to PM Narendra Modi, the trashing of all old banknotes of higher denominations has become necessary as these were being misused by the criminal and terrorist groups to foment trouble in India. Depriving them of this advantage by banning these notes had therefore become essential. Also, PM Modi had opted for this extreme option to fulfill his promise of eradicating black money in India – this was a big poll promise by the BJP during the last general elections. The move by PM Modi has been tagged as ‘bold’ by many as the risks are many. However, there are other analysts who say, barring major reforms, this step will yield very little returns.

Be that as it may, as far as godman Sadhguru was concerned, PM Modi has taken a spectacular step that will bode very well for the country as a whole. This is what Sadhguru said in his post on Twitter: “Right step to mainstream all economic activity, but traditional business will go into a tizzy for a while. This, Mr. PM, is #swachhbharat.

PM Modi has also said that the country will see a new Rs 500 note as well as a Rs 2,000 note in circulation soon. Those people who have the old ‘banned’ Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes can go to any bank or post office and get them exchanged.
