Anand Sharma, senior leader, Congress on Thursday reflected on the disruption of the parliament and said that there was a financial chaos following the decision was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence the opposition was right in asking him to explain and clarify the situation. He further said that when the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is a renowned economist made a request to speak on the matter, the speaker allowed it. But Manmohan Singh was stopped by finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the ruling party leaders. Sharma termed the incident as shameful.
Sharma further informed the media that the Congress party had already moved a breach of privileged motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sharma also expressed his disappointment and said that the opposition was very clear in its stand of having the Prime Minister present in the Parliament for a discussion. But if the Prime Minister was running away from a debate on the demonetisation scheme. then there was no point in a meeting, Sharma added.
The entire nation seems to have gone into a sense of frenzy ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announce the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes overnight. While the decision has been lauded by many for being a bold move in the fight against corruption, it has also been criticised for its lack of planning and poor execution. Besides, the opposition has also accused PM Modi of running a scam through the scheme. Congress VP Rahul Gandhi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had even gone on to say that the PM had informed his associates about the scheme before it had actually been announced.
