We live in a world that is heavily dependent on tech gadgets. Apart from the smartphones, we have smart gadgets for kitchen, car and every other thing we could possibly think of. Now, you can add smart toilets to the list. Yes! you read that right. Smart toilets are the new in-thing. On Tuesday, the Minister of state for home affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir inaugurated a smart public toilet utility (PTU) at Palika Bazar in Connaught Place, according to a report by TOI.
If you are wondering what possibly could be smart about a toilet then the things it is offering will really surprise you. The New Delhi Municipal Council has commissioned 329 PTUs to ensure there are at least 8 units per square kilometre distance.
These smart toilets not only offer facilities of a normal toilet but also offer facilities like bank ATM, water ATM, rooftop solar panel, sanitary vending machine, dispenser, digital health clinic and online user feedback tablet. Currently, 110 of such smart PTUs are being constructed by the New New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). These initiative has been taken under the Swacchta Pakhwada scheme.

The officiating NDMC chairman Puneet Goel was quoted saying in the report that these toilets will be available at a distance of fewer than 100 metres in busy markets and vulnerable locations. The amazing part is that all these toilets can be tracked through the council’s mobile app NDMC 311 using Google Toilet Locator. So far, 10 such toilets have been installed by the NDMC while the work for other toilets is going on.
