Rape-accused Samajwadi Party minister Gayatri Prajapati may flee India, cops put airports on alert

All the airports in Uttar Pradesh and Immigration Department have been put on high alert while other exit points have been sealed after reports emerged that rape accused Gayatri Prajapati was planning to flee from the country.

All the airports in Uttar Pradesh and Immigration Department have been put on high alert while other exit points have been sealed after reports emerged that rape accused Samajwadi Party (SP) minister Gayatri Prajapati was planning to flee from the country. A first-time MLA from Amethi, Prajapati has been accused of rape by a woman from Bundelkhand who alleged that he along with six associates had raped her and sexually assaulted her minor daughter at Prajapati’s official residence in Lucknow back in 2014.

A Letter of Cancellation (LC) will soon be issued against Prajapati, according to PTI quoted an official, which is used for alerting immigration authorities about any possible move by a suspect to leave the country. Whenever passport of the suspect comes for immigration clearance at any exit point of the country, the computer screen warns the official to not let the person leave. The Sashtra Seema Bal (SSB), guarding Uttar Pradesh’s border with Nepal, has also been alerted about the possiblity of such a move by Prajapati.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police raided house of Prajapati after an FIR was lodged against him following a directive of the Supreme Court after the alleged victim woman approached it.

Meanwhile, BJP on Friday accused UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav of hiding Prajapati at his residence and said the chief minister had become a “patron” of criminals in the state.

However, Meanwhile, Prajapati, an SP candidate from Amethi has denied the allegation, terming it a “political conspiracy by the BJP.” He has claimed he does not even know the victim. Amid the controversy, the SP leader earlier while addressing a rally in Amethi, had broke down and said that court will listen to him and do justice.
