Eggs were reportedly thrown at South Indian actress Ramya outside the Mangalore airport, following her pro-Pakistan comments. She was travelling to Kadri from Mangalore in her car when she was attacked. It is suspected that members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal committed the act. According to CNN, the police have taken a few people into custody. Kamya is already facing sedition charges for refuting the statement that Pakistan was hell. Ramya in a statement had said that she found the people of Pakistan to be similar to Indians and that the neighbouring country was not hell.
K Vittal Gowda, a Coorg-based advocate had filed a complaint against the actor turned politician under Section 200 of Cr.Pc in the Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Somwarpet. He had accused her of insulting India and provoking Indian sentiments by appreciating Pakistan. He had requested the court to register a case under the Sector 124A of the Indian Penal Code. Ramya, in a statement given to the media, had refused to apologise for her comment. She had visited Islamabad to attend a SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference and on return had refuted Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement comparing Pakistan to hell. She had also praised the neighbouring country for being hospitable to her.
Her statement had marked severe protests across the state with local ABVP and BJP cadre calling her anti-national and demanded her apologies. They said that on her failure to do so, she should leave India. BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje had cited the example of hundreds of soldiers being killed on the border and said that Ramya’s statement was an insult to all the army men.
