The fate of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti in the Babri Masjid demolition case will be decided by the Supreme Court tomorrow. Built in the 16th century by the generals of the Mughal emperor, Babri Masjid was demolished by a mob on December 6, 1992. The BJP leaders were present at the site when the mosque was pulled down and thus are facing trials ever since. The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute that started as a case with religion sentiments has now turned into a never ending war, as a result of which the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar on Tuesday appealed for an amicable resolution of the dispute. The apex court has clubbed the two cases that are currently in process in Lucknow and the other one in Rae Bareli. On March 5, 2017, SC expressed concern over delay in trial against people involved in the demolition of Babri and has favoured a joint trial of accused soon. According to a report, the 3 leaders were likely to face conspiracy charges in the Babri Masjid demolition case. In an earlier hearing, one of the lower courts had decided to drop criminal conspiracy charges against Advani and the other BJP leaders.
