The Indian Railways has cancelled 16 trains beginning their journey on August 30, 31 and September 1 to Maharashtra as many railway tracks are still under water due to the heavy downpour.

The Indian Railways has cancelled 16 trains beginning their journey on August 30, 31 and September 1 to Maharashtra as many railway tracks are still under water due to the heavy downpour yesterday, Chief PRO of Northern Railway has said, as per ANI. Yesterday, the city of Mumbai recorded 297.6mm rain in 9 hours from 8:30am-5:30 pm. Among the long distance cancelled trains are Indore-Mumbai Central Avantika Express, Udaipur City- Bandra (T) Superfast Express, Mumbai Central- Jaipur Superfast Express, Valsad- Mumbai Central Fast Passenger train.

The Indian Navy today distributed breakfast and tea to people outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station. “Provided food to about 1000 people in the morning. Nearly 700-800 people are being served now, ” an Indian Navy Commander said, adding the Navy is prepared to help more people stranded in rains.

Central Railway division is working relentlessly to restore the operations. In a series of tweets, Central Railway said: “Yes, the Railways has did It in past & will do it now too.” “Our first priority has always been restoration of train operations. Our operations are 24×7, 365 days a year.” About 19 flights were today cancelled, however, weather conditions at the Mumbai airport have improved. IMD has forecast downpour in Pune, Mumbai and Nashik today.
