Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s rally in New Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan turned out to be a good show with a massive crowd gathering. However, by the time Rahul arrived and began his speech, which was almost two hours after the scheduled time, many people already started leaving. As per a report by The Indian Express, the crowd was filled with women who started leaving the rally as they had to return home and prepare dinner for their families and ensure kids go to bed on time. The general mood of the crowd was frustration and one of the women visitors, when asked, berated Rahul for being late and even said that the leader should be told to be punctual the next time. This was despite party leaders organising an orchestra to boost the mood of the crowd. Patriotic songs were played as dancers kept the crowd engrossed before Rahul arrived the venue at around 6:30 pm.
However, Rahul continued with his speech at the rally and a large number of party workers came to the venue seeking tickets for the upcoming civic body polls in the city. The rally was largely flooded by party workers and supporters who were seen carrying placards flashing the names of their ward-leaders or wearing T-shirts and caps with the names and pictures of the ticket-seekers printed on them. In his speech, Rahul said that Congress would give tickets only to the local leaders instead of introducing new faces from outside.
Later the Congress VP went on talking about the development that has happened in the city. In his speech, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of doing ‘politics of lies’ and said that they have done a little for the development of Delhi. He blamed PM Modi for not fulfilling his promises to the people, and also took a jibe at Kejriwal by calling him the ‘king’ of Aam Aadmi Party who does not listen to anybody.
