Rahul Gandhi today said a Congress-led UPA would grant the Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh if it comes to power in 2019 even as he attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not doing so. He said that in run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Modi had promised in front of the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati that once in power, he would grant the SCS to the state for 10 years.

“But, after becoming Prime Minister, he has denied it. Now tell me what kind of Hindu is he, who lies in front of a temple,” Rahul asked, addressing the ‘Pratyeka Hoda Bharosa Sabha’ organised by the Congress here.

“The SCS is not a gift. This is your right. This right was given to you by a prime minister (Manmohan Singh). Nobody can deny that right. Once we come to power in 2019, our first action will be to grant the SCS to AP,” Rahul promised.

The Congress vice-president also lashed out at the “two parties of AP” for giving up the SCS demand “out of fear”. Several parties in the countries are supporting the demand for SCS to AP but two parties of the state are not, he said.

“Narendra Modi must have exerted some pressure on these two parties. (There is) some fear in their hearts,” Rahul said, in an obvious reference to the ruling Telugu Desam and the lone opposition Y S R Congress.

Watch this also:

“If (Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister) Chandrababu (Naidu) and (YSR Congress chief) Jaganmohan Reddy don’t fight for SCS, we will stand together and fight. We will fight in Parliament,” Rahul added.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav, CPI leaders Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, D Raja, DMK leader Elangovan, RJD leader Jayaprakash Narayan Yadav, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh and others were in attendance.

Congi in Andhra in 2019, it's not only a tall order but of Himalayan magnitude. And before worrying for Andhra, RG should start working on his own family owned fiefdom named Amethi. Amethi has suddenly travelled boyond RG's stature. So start looking for a safe cons uency may be the Nizami Owisi could help him.

The special Status meeting organised by APCC is a big/huge success. We thank the leaders of all political parties for lending their support amidst the people of Andhra who wanted it. Thanks to Shri Rahulji for visiting Guntur for the cause of people and with all major political parties leaders. Thanks to all leaders for their support through their presence. That only shows the special status is very much possible and APCC should not leave this oppourtunity .And before the event began at 5:30 p.m or so a channel gave wrong information that no party leader came except Shri Rahulji inspite of the fact that all of them are coming to the venue in a bus together ,collectively.Such kind of thing shouldnot be done when it is for the good and in support of people.Because the leaders who came are very big and great people and the event is for the welfare of the people. And i am not against any political party ..But workers of a particular didn't do right thing by raising go back slogans

The public meeting in Guntur is a g success like the one in SangaReddy.Huge crowds in thousands attended the event.Almost all major political parties leaders of the country were present and all of them ured their support for special status to Andhra. And Shri Rahulji once again ured the people that they are still in support of Special Status to Andhra..The APCC should not leave this opportunity given by the people and the urance given by the leaders from all the major political parties spite of the success of the event,a channel went on stating at 5:45 p.m that the event was a flop and there are no people at all giving wrong information which is not a good practice.Such misleading shouldnot be done while it's for a greater people cause. And some people belonging to a political party st ed the roads raising slogans against Shri Rahulji to go back. One has to understand in a broad daylight,in a democracy no one has a right to stall the presence of others in a wrong manner
