“We stand with each one of our suspended MPs (3/3): Rahul Gandhi #BlackDayForIndianDemocracy. Truth will not be silenced in the case of corruption scams either where the Prime Minister is protecting the guilty,” Rahul Gandhi said in a series of tweets.
“The Modi Govt will soon understand that truth cannot be silenced. The ppl of India&Congress Party have shown this in case of land bill,” Gandhi said.
25 of Congress party’s 44 members in Lok Sabha were today suspended for five days for causing disruptions, setting the stage for escalation in confrontation as nine opposition parties decided to boycott the House for these days to express solidarity with the suspended members.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan took the decision, first such major action in the present Lok Sabha, against the members for “persistently, wilfully obstructing” the House by displaying placards and shouting slogans.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had earlier dubbed as ‘Black Day’ for democracy the suspension of the MPs from Lok Sabha as her party said the Narendra Modi government is implementing “Gujarat model” of democracy here.
Gandhi, who appeared agitated soon after Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s decision to suspend 25 Congress MPs, said, “It is a Black Day for democracy.”
