Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday announced he will be visiting his grandmother and family in Italy. “Will be traveling to meet my grandmother and family for a few days. Looking forward to spending some time with them!,” Rahul tweeted. Rahul sudded announcement comes day after he visited Mandsaur, the violence-affected area of Madhya Pradesh which recently witnessed a 10 day farmer protest. Gandhi’s last trip there came in December 2016, when the Congress vice-president announced a sudden break from work around new year. Gandhi, before leaving, extended New Year greetings to all and revealed his plan to go on a holiday. He had tweeted, “I will be traveling for the next few days. Happy New Year to everyone, wishing you and your loved ones success and happiness in this coming year.” Prior to this, Rahul had taken a break last year in the month of June. That time, Rahul had revealed on the social media site that he is going abroad for a “few days”. However, he did not specify the country he was heading for.
“Traveling out of the country for a few days on a short visit. Thanks again to all who met & wished me yesterday, truly grateful for your affection!”, he said on Twitter. The announcement had come just a day after Gandhi celebrated his 46th birthday.

In 2015, Rahul Gandhi had taken a 56-day mysterious sabbatical. Rahul mysterious absence had created much controversy in political circles with the ruling BJP making his absence in the midst of Budget session of Parliament an issue. Rahul’s sabbatical, which came soon after the party was completely wiped out in the Delhi Assembly elections, attracted criticism from all quarters. Since then, Rahul has resorted to tweets to inform his followers each time he goes on a vacation.
