Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today filed a criminal defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and two other AAP leaders for allegedly “tarnishing” his reputation.
Besides Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khaitan are also named in the case which accuses them of “tarnishing” the reputation of Majithia and his family members by levelling “false, baseless and malicious charges”.
The case has been filed in the court of Civil Judge Gurpartap Singh, here under different sections of CrPC.
Majithia said Kejriwal as well as other leaders have “made it a habit” to target their political opponents by resorting to statements “filled with lies with the sole motive of hoodwinking the people”.
“I will not let anyone besmirch my and family’s honour. Anyone doing so will have to face the consequences. I am determined to make them face trial and be punished for their misdeeds,” the minister said.
Majithia had earlier filed a defamation case against these leaders in a Ludhiana court.
Meanwhile, Singh, who is AAP’s national spokesperson, alleged that Majithia is defaming the state’s reputation by indulging in the Rs 6,000 crore drug racket.
“It is Majithia, who is maligning and defaming Punjab with his involvement in the multi-crore drug racket. Entire Punjab knows who is the kingpin of drug mafia in the state,” he said.
Maintaining that AAP will continue to expose his “misdeeds”, Singh said, “We will leave no stone unturned to restore the dignity of Punjab. This can happen only if he goes behind bars once AAP forms government in the state after the polls next year.”
“He should know court cases may take time. So instead of playing such child-like tricks to hoodwink the people as well as to browbeat the AAP leaders, he should put us in jail,” he said.
“Evidences of ED showed how Majithia provided patronage and protection to several international drug smugglers who used his residence in Amritsar as base for drug smuggling,” Singh alleged.
Khetan claimed when AAP forms government in the state it would surely send Majithia to jail on the basis of evidences it has gathered from the various investigating agencies.
