As many as four doctors were drowned after their boat capsized in the backwaters of Ujani dam in Pune district of Maharashtra. According to an official of Pune district police, the incident took place on Sunday when a group of some 10 doctors from Solapur had come to the backwaters of the dam near Agoti village in Indapur tehsil on a picnic. Arriving at the spot, the doctors boarded a boat that was meant for fishing. They boarded the boat by themselves ventured into the water, reported news agency PTI quoting police inspector, Sajjan Hankare of Indapur police station.
The official said that after some time, the boat capsized for an unknown reason and all the 10 doctors aboard fell into the water. While six of them somehow managed to swim back to the shore of the dam after the incident, the rest drowned. They made some emergency calls and police reached the site and started searching for the four missing doctors identified as Chandrakant Urade, a resident of Natepute in Solapur district, Subhash Manjarekar, Mahesh Lawate and Annasaheb Shinde. The body of Chandrakant was fished out soon after that. While the search for the other three is still on, police said.
Later, on Monday, news agency ANI confirmed the death of all four doctors. The police is investigating the case from all angles, according to reports.

Last week, at least 13 persons reportedly drowned while four others went missing after their dinghy capsized in a stream in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh, the police said. According to the cops, all the victims were closely related and many of them belonged to one family. At least six of the victims were said to be children and over five women, the official said.
