President Pranab Mukherjee, who is to be in Chennai to pay his tribute to the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that he was deeply saddened by Amma’s demise. The President further said that he had known Jayalalithaa for a long time as he was the leader of the house when she had first entered. President Mukherjee said that he had interacted with her on many subjects on various occasions, concerning development. He said that Amma had a wonderful mastery of the facts and theories. He said that Jayalalithaa won every battle she fought but one. He spoke about her fighting spirit and said that she was a fighter and fought till the end.
Meanwhile, both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been adjourned for the day after the obituary reference to Jayalalithaa, who died on Monday night in Chennai after suffering from a cardiac arrest following prolonged illness. The late Chief Minister’s body was to be taken to the MGR Memorial at the Marina Beach in Chennai for the last rites ceremony. It was also reported earlier that her mortal remains had been kept at the Rajaji Hall where tributes were being paid.

Earlier yesterday, at 11:30 PM, the Chief Minister was declared dead at the Apollo Hospital where she had been admitted for a long time. She had initially been admitted due to fever and fatigue and her condition had remained critical ever since. Although, it had been reported that Amma was getting better and would soon take the reigns of the state, it was not to be as she suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be put on life support.
