In the second attack on Pakistan in just a few days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hit out strongly at the neighbouring country, saying, “There is one country in our neighbourhood whose competitive advantage rests solely in producing & exporting terrorism.” At the 11th East Asia Summit, PM Modi said, “This export (of terrorism) is reducing space for peace and increasing the space for violence. It is putting at risk peace and prosperity of all.” In a sharp and to the point attack, PM Modi said, “We need to target not only the terrorists but also their entire supporting ecosystem. Our strongest action should be reserved for those state actors who employ terrorism as an instrument of state policy.” PM Modi went on to say, “Terrorism is the most serious challenge to open and pluralistic societies; combating it requires collective effort.”
Talking about the importance of freedom of navigation, PM Modi said, “India supports freedom of navigation, over flight, and unimpeded commerce, based on the principles of international law. Sea lanes of communication passing through South China Sea are main arteries of global merchandise trade. Competing geo-politics, traditional and non-traditional challenges threaten peace, stability and prosperity of the region.” “We expect that ASEAN will continue to lead and remain central to efforts aimed at greater regional integration and co-operation,” he said.
On Monday, the Prime Minister had taken a swipe at Pakistan at the G20 summit. Modi urged leaders of world’s big economies to isolate the “one single nation in South Asia” that is spreading “agents of terror” in the region. “We expect the international community to speak and act in unity, and to respond with urgency to fight this menace. Those who sponsor and support terrorism must be isolated and sanctioned, not rewarded… For us a terrorist is a terrorist,” PM Modi said in yet another speech that was openly targeted at Pakistan on an important international forum. The two consecutive attacks by PM Narendra Modi on international forums assume significance at a time when the Modi government has said that it is time to expose Pakistan’s atrocities in the areas of PoK and Balochistan.
