PM Narendra Modi lauds Gujarat government’s efforts to solve Kutch water-crisis, says ‘lives set to transform’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded Gujarat government’s efforts for water conservation in Kutch, a dry region within the state. Lauding the efforts, Modi said that people who wish to learn about water conservation, should take Kutch as an example.  “From Keshubhai Patel to Vijay Bhai, successive Gujarat governments placed importance to water conservation and we can see results of that,” PM Modi said. “Those who want to learn about how to save every drop of water, they should come to Kutch and see how people do it here,” he added. Highlighting the initiatives of governments, Modi said, “the Tappar Dam has been enhanced and we also welcome Narmada waters. We will see how water will transform lives here.”

Modi added that awareness about water conservation is need of the hour. Modi further expressed happiness over receiving Narmada river water for Kutch region. “I had the opportunity to be in Amarkantak and pray there. Today I am here, welcoming the waters of Narmada in Kutch,” Modi said.  He further said that city’s Bhuj town will soon have a state of the art bus port. Concluding his speech, Modi said that governmeny want to focus on development and positive work that takes Gujarat to new heights.

Earlier in the day, Modi laid foundation stone for 6 projects worth Rs 993 crore linked to the development of Kutch’s Kandla port. Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, added that Kandla port has emerged as one the most important ports in Asia. “Today, investment projects worth of aproximately Rs 1,000 crore ready to be implemented in Kandla, this is not a small amount,” PM said. “Infrastructure, efficiency and transparency are vital pillars of economic growth, good ports are essential for progress of country,” PM Modi said.

Modi expressed his belief that Kandla Port has the potential to play an important role in India’s economy, adding, that earthquake had devastated the district of Kutch in 2001, but people’s courage made it walk again. Modi also suggested Union Cabinet Minister Nitin Gadkari to rename Kandla Port to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kandla port. “We are in the year of birth century of Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay, I would like to suggest Nitin Gadkari Ji to rename this port to Deen Dayal Upadhayay Kandla port,” Modi had said.
