Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that it’s time that former Finance Minister P Chidambaram answer charges of corruption. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi Goyal said that Modi government is acting against corruption. The CBI today raided residences of Chidambaram and his son Karti in Tamil Nadu in connection with alleged criminal misconduct in the grant of FIPB approvals. The move comes a day after the CBI filed a FIR against Karti Chidambaram and Indrani Mukherjea.

Separate teams conducted searches at over ten places in Tamil Nadu, besides carrying out over a dozen raids in Delhi, Mumbai and Haryana’s Gurugram. Goyal said the country needs answers from UPA bigwigs. “UPA leaders have to come clean on corruption charges, the issue is why beneficiaries of FIPB approval gave money to firms owned by P Chidambaram’s son,” added Goyal.

Saying that the law will take its own course, Goyal said,”In 3 years we have given the nation an honest, scam free government. It is a day of accountability for the government and also the corrupt.” Goyal said that the nation is led by a decisive leader and the NDA government has led India to one of the fastest growing large economies in the world.

The former Finance Minister clarified that no wrongdoings were done under his watch in connection with the FIPB approval. “Every case was processed according to the law and approval granted or refused accordance with FIPB recommendations consisting of five Government of India Secretaries,” ANI reported him as saying.
