Pulwama encounter: In a major blow to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), three terrorists were today killed by security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter, that lasted for over six hours, started last evening in Kakapora area of Pulwama. The slain terrorists were identified as Majid Mir, Shariq Ahmad and Irshad Ahmad, according to ANI report. The encounter started after forces got tip off that that three terrorists were hiding in a house located in a densely populated locality. It has been learned that these militants are local youths and had joined LeT, police was quoted as saying by PTI.
Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Kakapora area of Pulwama following information about presence of militants there.This is the first successful counter-insurgency operation in Pulwama area which is believed to have large presence of local militants aided with a strong-network of over ground workers, he said.
The successful operation was a big blow to the LeT terror outfit which recently lost its commander Junaid Mattoo in an encounter at Arwin village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on June 17, the report says. This is the second successful operation against the terror outfit within three days. Yesterday, two militants were killed in an encounter in Sopore township of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.The slain militants in Sopore were identified as Basit Ahmad Mir, a resident of Indergam Pattan, and Gulzar Ahmad, a resident of Brat Sopore.

Two AK rifles, five AK magazines, 124 AK rounds, a hand grenade and a pouch have been found at the encounter site, the official said.
