Patna-Indore Train Accident: Sonia, Rahul Gandhi express grief over loss of lives

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has expressed grief over loss of lives in the train accident near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has expressed grief over loss of lives in the train accident near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. She also urged the railways to thoroughly probe the reasons that led to the tragedy. Her son and party vice president Rahul Gandhi also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

In her message Sonia Gandhi said that words can’t describe the enormous pain of those who lost their dear ones and entire country stands in solidarity with them to share this unbearable sorrow.

Early in the day, nearly 97 people were dead and more than 200 were injured after fourteen coaches of Patna-Indore Express was derailed in Pukharayan town, 60 km from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. The mishap took place around 3 AM in the morning.

While the Centreannounced an ex-gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for those with grievous injuries and Rs 25 thousand for those with minor injuries in the Patna-Indore Express derailment incident, where the death toll has risen to 91.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced a sum of Rs 5 lakh to deceased families, Rs 50 thousand for seriously injured people and Rs 25 thousand for people with minor injuries.

Madhya Pradesh Chief minister has also announced Rs 2 lakhs compensation for the families of deceased; Rs 50,000 for those critically injured. MP Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan said, “Chhatarpur SP, Collector, rescue team, a medical team rushed to accident spot and the injured will be given free treatment.”
