In a relief to Lt Col Niranjan Kumar’s family, the authorities have given the kin of the martyr, time to rectify the portion of the house that is coming in way of the demolition drive of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP). Kumar, a bomb expert with NSG, was killed in the terror attack on Pathankot airbase in January this year. In a list prepared by the local authorities to mark the properties that have encroached on storm water drains, a pillar of Niranjan’s house at Doddabommassandra near Vidyaranyapura was also added.
We are thankful to the corporation for giving us time, we will start the demolition of the encroached portion of our house by ourselves, said Niranjan’s brother Shashank. Besides Kumar’s residence, 1100 more properties are marked under the list. Following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s order, the civic body on Saturday had begun the demolition drive at Avani Sringeri Nagar in Bommanahalli, Kasavanahalli in Mahadevapura and Shivanahalli in Yelahanka.
Before the family was given time to rectify the case themselves, Shashank told reporters in Benaluru, “It is very hard for us to digest this because we have lost our brother in Pathankot attack and now we are seeing the house is being demolished. And it is not a good thing to see our national hero’s house being demolished. I would request to stop this demolition for good purpose because Niranjan has died for the country and if is going to happen this way then it is a shame for the country.”
