Amid heated political uproar over the implementation of the demonetisation policy, the Parliamentary houses had been witnessing repeated adjournments, hindering the steady proceedings of the winter session. Even on the 10th day, yesterday, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha had been repeatedly adjourned amid opposition leaders shouting out arguments against the newly implemented note-ban policy. And from the first day of the winter session, the parliamentary proceedings had been disrupted, with protesting leaders demanding the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss the demonetisation policy.

Citing the need to curb the flow of black money in the country, PM Modi, on November 8, had initiated the demonetisation policy, thereby putting a ban on currency notes of the denomination Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Even after more than three weeks post implementation, cash-starved people had been seen standing on ‘never-ending’ queues, waiting for hours outside banks and ATMs to collect the new currency notes, even as the money machines run out of cash.
