Following pitures of a minor being chained inside a Madrasa in Jammu getting viral, parents of the 11-year old were today booked by the police with charges under the Juvenile act.
The Mayanmar refugee couple had put chains on their son’s feet in order to prevent him from running away from the Madrasa. The head moulvi at the madrasa told the police that the boy had also earlier ran away from the Madrasa and his mother had reportedly brought him back and kept him chained.
The police actions came after the pictures of the boy with chained feet got viral on social media. Someone from a nearby Madrasa had, reportedly, noticed the incident, taken picture of the boy and put the image on social media.
In an statement to India Today, a senior pollice official said, “The picture of the boy with feet cuffed in chains has drawn our attention as it went viral on social media.”
There were media hurled in the Bhatindi belt of the city, where the boy was kept chained, after the social media buzz on the pictures. The boy’s mother claimed that the step to chain her child was taken as an attempt to stop him from running away from the Madrasa.
A madrasa is an educational institution where the study of Islamic religion is practiced, though other subjects are also being taught.
