Pakistan ceasefire violation: Rajnath Singh calls DG BSF to take stock of situation

Home Minister (HM) Rajnath Singh who is on a three day visit to Bahrain today spoke to Director General of Border Security Force K K Sharma to take stock of the situation along the International Border near Jammu following the heavy shelling and firing by Pakistani forces which killed one BSF jawan and injured three others.

Rajnath Singh expressed his grief and offered his salutation to the martyred jawan Sushil Kumar who was killed by gun battle last night.

The BSF jawan was killed and three others were injured as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire, resorting to heavy shelling and firing from automatic weapons in several sectors along the International Border in Jammu district.

Following the surgical strikes in PoK after the Uri Attack there have been over 40 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops. A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of Kashmir today.

Army personnel launched an anti-militancy operation in Lolab area of Kupwara district following information about presence of militants in the area, an army official said. In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained, he said, adding one weapon was recovered from the scene of the gunbattle. The operation was going on till reports last came in, he added. (With PTI inputs)
