The suicide of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal might be the part of a larger conspiracy. Police sources told the ToI that the case was handed over to the crime branch for an ‘in-depth probe’, as the initial investigation pointed towards a conspiracy. A special team under joint commissioner Ravindra Yadav and DCP Bhisham Singh is reported to have been formed for the purpose. Police sources informed that the special team has been tasked with ascertaining the precise sequence of events.
The team has also been instructed to record and corroborate the statements of people who were with Grewal before his death. The team has also be tasked to find out if he was instigated to take the poison and commit suicide. Reports suggest that CCTV footages from the camera around the MEA office are being studied. The police informed ToI that Grewal had met with Raj Kumar, Jagdish and Prithvi, 3 of his friends on October 31 at Nehru Park in Bhiwani. Later they had decided to join the OROP protest in Delhi. If Grewal’s friends are to be believed, they had written down their details at the register of protesters but Grewal had not let them join in.
The group had then headed for Sumitra Mahajan’s residence but could not find her there. Although, the police refutes these claims and says that there was no proof of the group going to the Defence’s Minister’s property. Later, they had returned to the MEA office where Kumar witnesses Grewal consuming something and informed the police. Police informed the reporters that they had received the call at 1:09 pm. According to the report submitted on Wednesday, it was around this time that the call to Grewal’s son had been made. Grewal was then taken to the RML hospital in Delhi, where he was declared dead.
