Minister of State Kiren Rijju on Thursday condemned the protesters outside the RML hospital and said that matters such as the suicide of an ex-serviceman should not be politicised. Speaking to Times Now, Rijju said that the Central government or the ministry cannot be held responsible for the actions of the Delhi Police. He further stated that the Delhi Police did what they had to do at a local level and matters such as these do not reach the ministry.

Rijju expressed his grief and said that whenever a tragedy such as this happens, it is absolutely wrong to politicise the issue. When asked about the detention of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, he said that the ministry does not enquire issues that the Delhi Police deals at such levels. He questioned as to what was to be achieved by politicising the death of an ex-serviceman.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Ram Kishan Grewal had committed suicide over the issue of One Rank One Pension (OROP). The 70-year old committed suicide by consuming poison at Janpath. His death triggered a massive political storm in the country, as political leaders were stopped from meeting his family at the RML hospital and later detained by the Delhi police. While many have termed the action as undemocratic, the Delhi Police has said that the hospital was no place to hold protests.
