BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi lashed out at the Congress for playing politics over the One-Rank-One-Pension (OROP) scheme for retired ex-servicemen. Lekhi said that she sees the entire incident and politics over it with suspicion.
Politics over OROP started after the alleged suicide of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal.
Commenting on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s role in the politicisation of the sensitive issue, Lekhi told ANI, “One of the two main faces which have emerged in the politics over OROP is of Rahul Gandhi, who represents the Congress. I would not make any personal comment on her but I would say to that Congress has been a party for whom OROP has been one Rahul, one Priyanka.”

She further said: “The reasons and circumstances in which suicide happened, is beyond logical sense. When the ex-soldier was getting Rs 4000 pension, he didn’t commit suicide. But he killed himself when he was getting Rs 24,000 pension.”
“There are several mysterious things that need to be looked into,” she further said, adding, “This person (Grewal) who was in the Defence services had knowledge of the entire system as to how to go for dispute resolution.”
Rahul Gandhi today met a delegation of ex-servicemen over the issue. He stepped up pressure on the government over OROP, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “lying” on the issue and insisting what the retired defence personnel were now getting was “enhanced pension” and that ‘One Rank-One Pension’ demand was yet to be fulfilled.
The Congress vice president asserted that OROP was the right of military personnel and the government “will have
to give it”. “What PM says is One Rank-One Pension is actually pension enhancement and not OROP. PM should stop lying on the issue.
“OROP is the right of armed forces personnel and the government will have to give it,” Rahul, who was detained thrice over two days during protests over the suicide by army veteran Ram Kishan Grewal, told reporters.
