On World Environment Day, PM Narendra Modi reiterates commitment to environment

Prime Minister Modi sent out a series of tweets urging his followers to be environmentally conscious. Modi tweeted using hashtags #WithNature and #WorldEnviromentDay.

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted his Twitter followers with messages promoting a greener and sustainable lifestyle. Just days before during his 4-nation tour in Europe, Prime Minister Modi, speaking at the St. Petersberg International Forum (SPIEF) 2017 meeting in St. Petersberg had said that India will stay true to its commitment made during the Paris Climate Accord. Today, on World Environment day, Prime Minister Modi sent out a series of tweets urging his followers to be environmentally conscious. Modi tweeted using hashtags #WithNature and #WorldEnviromentDay. One such Modi tweet read, “This year’s theme of ‘Connecting People to Nature’ is nothing but getting connected with ourselves.”

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to thank people and organisations who are working towards protecting the environment. Modi tweeted,”We salute the will & determination of all those individuals & organisations working towards protecting the environment”. PM Modi had, in his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio address also thanked a Mumbai resident for his efforts to clean the Versova beach.

During his visit to Germany last week the Prime Minister responding to a question on US President Donald Trump pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord had said, “Paris or no Paris, our commitment to preserving the climate is for the sake of future generations”.

Modi in his speech in Russia had said that the cultural heritage of India is dedicated to nature, to the study of the environment and that the unbridled exploitation of nature is a crime.The PM said that India is a responsible nation with respect to climate change and stressed the commitment to ‘Zero defect’ in manufacturing & ‘Zero effect’ on the environment.
