While speaking at the event, Singh said, “Pranab Mukherjee is a politician by choice and he is one of the greatest politicians living in our country.” The former prime minister also shared the incident about how he stepped into politics. “I became a politician by accident when PV Narasimha Rao invited me to become Finance Minister.” Various other leading Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were present at the event, reported ANI.

“In 2004, Sonia ji chose me to be the Prime Minister. Pranab ji was the most distinguished colleague that I had,” ANI quoted Singh. he further complemented former President by saying, “He had every reason to feel a grievance that he was better qualified than I was to be PM but he also knew I had no choice in matter.”

Singh also underlined how his elevation did not impact the relations between them. “Therefore, that smoothened our relationship. We ran government as cohesive team of which Pranab Mukherjee was the most important member,” he added.

Pranab Mukherji was not made the PM for the simple reason that he would not have acted like a puppet the way the Sardarji has been used by the Italian Madam.
