AV Swamy, Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha, who came to attend the proceedings of the Upper House suddenly fell down in Parliament. The reason of his sudden fall hasn’t been ascertained as yet. Ex-officio Chairman of Rajya Sabha and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu informed the House, “Odisha MP AV Swamy fell down in the Parliament premises, he has been moved to the hospital, the reason being ascertained,” as per ANI. After Swamy fell down in the Parliament, apparently due to ill-health, he was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. He has reportedly been admitted to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Alajangi Viswanath Swamy was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Odisha as an Independent candidate. Meanwhile, on the day of the Budget session, the proceedings in both the houses of the Parliament was repeatedly disrupted, mainly because of the protest staged by the TDP members over their demand of special status to Andhra. The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till March 5. In Rajya Sabha, an uproar was witnessed after Samajwadi Party member Naresh Agarwal urged Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to ask for an apology from Minister of State Kiren Rijiju over his social media post on Congress’ Renuka Chowdhury. The Congress was expected to raise the issue of Rafale fighter jet purchase in both the Houses of Parliament today.
Earlier, on Thursday (February 8), both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha discussed Union budget 2018-19 with the Opposition targeting the government over an agrarian crisis, unemployment and other issues. Finance minister Arun Jaitley refuted Congress leader P Chidambaram’s charges on economic policy, saying structural reform may pose momentary difficulty initially but will prove to be beneficial in the long run.
