Noida fake encounter: An alleged fake encounter in Noida in Uttar Pradesh reached the threshold of Parliament on Monday, with the Rajya Sabha adjourned after Samajwadi Party MPs started protesting over the issue. The former ruling party of Uttar Pradesh had given an adjournment notice in the Upper House on the issue. It has been learnt that the alleged victim, Jitendra Kumar Yadav, was a twenty-five-year-old gym trainer and was shot at by a sub-inspector on Saturday night. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Noida, Love Kumar has ruled out an encounter angle, saying it instead looked like a case of “personal enmity”. He further said that the investigation revealed that the trainee sub-inspector knew the elder brother of Yadav, the victim. Yadav’s family has claimed that the sub-inspector had allegedly told someone over the phone that an ‘encounter’ had taken place.
According to reports, Yadav was returning home after attending a wedding in Ghaziabad. Sub-inspector Vijay Darshan, another sub-inspector and two constables had stopped his car near Noida Sector 122 on Saturday. A friend of Yadav, also an eye-witness in the case, has claimed that police had fired upon them. He also alleged that police took them to the chowki. “When we reached the chowki, he parked the car. I broke the windscreen of the car and started creating a hue and cry because he was not taking us to the hospital. I did so in the hope that someone helps us. He called someone and said that, Sir, an encounter has taken place here, cross firing has happened,” he was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
SSP Love Kumar has said that the four policemen involved in the shootout have been suspended and the sub-inspector who fired the gunshots has been nabbed. “The four policemen have been suspended with immediate effect. We have seized service revolver of the sub-inspector who fired the gunshots and sent him to jail. Besides sending the accused trainee sub-inspector to jail, the role of other three policemen, two constables and a sub-inspector is being investigated. All four of them remain suspended,” news agency ANI quoted SSP Love Kumar as saying. “Staff communicated to me that there had been some argument with the man (who was shot) during which the sub-inspector shot at him and they are taking him to the hospital,” Kumar said while talking to media.
The SSP also said that Darshan knew Yadav’s elder brother very closely and the investigation was looking at personal enmity in the case.
