No power shortage in the country, says Piyush Goyal in Rajya Sabha

Monsoon Session Parliament: In another week of Monsoon Session, MoS with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goayal said that India has ‘sufficient power’. “If any state in the country desires to have power, they can go to the DEEP portal and buy it.” Goyal, in April had launched the “DEEP (Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price) e-Bidding & e-Reverse Auction portal” for procurement of short term power by DISCOM (distribution companies of India). He asked that people should not stay under the wrong impression that India has a power shortage.

Piyush Goyal has walked out of the Parliament last week, as Rajya Sabha witnessed a war of words between Piyush Goyal and Samajwadi Party members on the issue of electrification of villages in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile power ministers from about 24 countries are likely to meet Piyush Goyal in a two day meeting which may start in Vadodara, from October 7. At the same time, a global expo called, ‘Switch’ will be taking place in the same city. The event is on the Indian electrical industry.

BJP is expected initiate a discussions over the Bulandshahr gangrape case of a mother and daughter. Discussions on the Goods and Service Tax Bill is also expected in Rajya Sabha this week.
