Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif today held a meeting with Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif amid news being rife of mounting tension between the two. Recent reports suggested friction between the two aggreavted post Indian Army’s surgical strikes. While it was being said that the Nawaz Sharif government is trying to hold back its marginalisation against the army, the government rubbished all such rumours.
If only India’s surgical strikes did any less to baffle Pakistan, the reports suggesting a rift between Pakistan Government and Army might just be true.
It is being reported that Pak’s intelligence ISI Chief Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar is also present at the meeting. News also reported the replacement of the ISI chief is on the cards because of the shock invoked in Pakistan owing to India’s surgical strikes.
“Pakistan’s diplomatic isolation has exposed the logic that terrorism as an option comes with no cost. They tried to project terrorist violence in J&K as a struggle for freedom, only to find Sharif speaking to an audience at the UN General Assembly with no heads of government and just middle-rung and junior diplomats,” an official source was quoted saying by TOI. While the forlornness meted out to Pakistan by other countries on the terrorist attack might have incited this reaction from the Government, the actual agenda of the meet is yet to be cleared.
