The debate over newly joined Congress leader and state minister in charge of Local Bodies Ministry in Capt Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Cabinet, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s decision to continue doing TV shows even after being given the responsibility of running a ministry has just been ratcheted up in terms of controversy – the former BJP MP’s wife has jumped into the row now and is alleging their family’s livelihood is being threatened by the Punjab CM who has hinted that Sidhu should give up his other interests.
While the minister is seeking legal opinion on the issue, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu has come to support her husband on the issue. In her post on social media platform, she said the couple has only TV as their source of earnings and asked people why the matter was being highlighted so much. She said that Sidhu spends hardly five hours in a week on TV, which was “a meagre time for a non-socially active God-fearing workaholic.”
In her Facebook post, Navjot Kaur said when she was working as an MLA, the cost of electricity bill and tea for guests cost her more than her income. “We have no other business or source of income except television,” she clearly said. She further added that Sidhu has already left 80 percent of his shows which included Indian Premier League, cricket commentary etc.
Stepping into the row was senior advocate KTS Tulsi who said that Sidhu will have to resign as minister if he wants to continue acting in the show. This approach has been supported by other party leaders who were reportedly not happy with the move of Sidhu to perform both the roles at the same time as it will tag him with the status of a politician having ‘office of profit’.
