Senior Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh, who is also the president of the state party unit has backtracked on Friday on his earlier statement that from cricketer and co-founder of political front Aawaaz-e-Punjab Navjot Singh was welcome to the party.
While speaking to the ‘India Today’ news channel on Friday, the former Punjab chief minister said that he had not met Sidhu for years. He added that anybody who wants to join the party from any party is most welcome, but has to join the party believing in party’s ideaologies and without any conditions.
He added that the main aim of his party is to remove the Akali Dal from the power in the state and those willing for the same is welcome. On Tuesday, during an induction ceremony of suspended Akali Dal MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria and former district chief of the party Upkar Singh Sandhu, Amarinder had said that even Sidhu was welcome to join the party.
He had said that Sidhu’s front was “welcome” to merge with the Congress but had ruled out chances of an alliance with it.
It should be noted here that Sindhu had resigned as BJP Member of the Parliament on July 18. There were rumours of him joining the Aam Admi Party. After waiting for some time, he eventually launched the front called ‘Awaz e-Punjab’ along with Pargat Singh and Bains brothers.
