Following Bhartiya Janata Party’s better than expected performance in the Panchayat elections in Odisha, doubt seems to have crept in the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal. As reported earlier, the party in the recent years seems to have been divided into factions and it was evident when a Twitter war between MPs Baijayant panda and Tathagat Satpathy took place. Panda, whose close proximity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi is surely being a major point of Chief Minister replied to MP Tathagat Satpathy who had alleged that the BJP was trying to break the BJD from inside and was being aided by one of the MPs. Replying to Satpathy, Panda spoke to a local daily saying that all the key positions in the party had been taken up by opportunists.

Although Tathagat Satpathy did not mention any particular names, Panda reacted to the tweet saying that Satpathy, who is also the party whip, spoke with expertise, after having been suspended from the party once and joining another party. He further said that one honest introspection, the BJD must acknowledge that all the political allegations about Odisha politics in 1997 have been made again in the last 3 years. The MP further said that the founding members of the party no longer remained in privilege.

He alleged that a lot of important positions in the party had been taken by opportunists, including some who had worked against the BJD. He said that such positions were no longer held by people who had struggled for the party and had given honest feedback. In a message to IE, Panda said that he had introspected the matter in the right spirit. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Pratap Deb was of the opinion that senior leaders must never put out the problems within the party in the open. He said that if Panda had a problem and thought that something was wrong within the party, he should have raised the matter at a party forum.
