Welcoming Maharashtra government’s stand on the attempted rape of a minor girl in Talegaon, NCP President Sharad Pawar today appealed to masses to ensure there is no disharmony in the society over the incident.
“People are very angry due to the Nashik incident. At the same time, the government showed its will to take steps against the perpetrator of the crime and the police have arrested the accused,” Pawar told reporters here today.
The government has also promised speedy filing of the charge-sheet and strict punishment to the accused, he added.
Pawar said people’s anger can be understood but “there needs to be a full stop to it”.
“People should ensure there is no disharmony in the society due to this issue. This state belongs to Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and (B R) Ambedkar. Thus, keeping their virtues in mind, people should remain calm and maintain peace,” Pawar said.
A 16-year-old boy allegedly tried to rape a five-year-old girl near Trimbakeshwar in Nashik which led to large scale protests and tension in the district.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed for calm and assured the case would be tried in a fast track court.
