We often hear about the mammoth properties political parties own these days. But do you know about the exact amount of assets these parties own? An NGO, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Election Watch has given the figures about value of declared assets of top political parties. The organisation has presented a study on the current value of assets owned by political parties and the growth between 2004-2016. As per ADR, the BJP has increased from Rs 122.93 crore in 2004-05 to Rs 893.88 crore in 2015-16. The Congress has risen its assets from Rs 167.35 crore to Rs 758.79 crore. While the value of assets of Trinamool Congress has seen a jump from Rs 0.25 crore to Rs 44.99 crore during this 11-year period.

For CPI(M), the total value of assets has increased during the period by 383.47 per cent – from Rs 90.55 crore to Rs 437.78 crore, ADR national coordinator Anil Verma was quoted as saying by PTI. The lowest increase in value of assets was recorded for CPI – from Rs 5.56 crore to Rs 10.18 crore, he added.

Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has seen a rise of assets from Rs 43.09 crore to Rs 559.01 crore, while Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party has grown from Rs 1.6 crore to Rs 14.54 crore. “The increase in assets of the seven national parties from 2004-05 to 2015-16 has had the highest rise under ‘other assets’ among all asset heads — from Rs 108.655 crore to Rs 1605.114 crore,” Verma said. “BJP has the highest capital at present after declaring Rs 868.889 crore, followed by Rs 557.38 crore of BSP and Rs 432.64 crore of CPI(M),” he added.

    very important information. It would be more useful, if a break-up of period is given, like (1) pre 2014 and post 2014, to know the impact of being in-power. (2) April-Sep.2017. - october 2017. - pre 8 nov. and post 8 nov to 31st dec. 2016, to know the money deposited during demonetization when all parties were freely accepting upto 20000 cash donation.

      no doubt BJP has edge , even demonetization helped them a lot and won UP elections easily. this time onward bjp will struggle in elections and 2019 it should be congress coalition govt , BJP may be restricted to 150-180 seats . any how MODI wont be in PM seat as he will be 70 in 2020 september . this will also effect bjps results .
