Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed an event to mark the inauguration of Umiya Dham Ashram in Haridwar. Prior to the inauguration, PM Modi addressed the gathering via video conferencing and said, “The Ashram being inaugurated today will benefit the pilgrims coming to Haridwar.” Further, in his speech, PM Modi spoke about Yatra and the culture pertaining to it. He said, “The idea of a ‘Yatra’ existed as an integral part of our culture. Through a Yatra we get acquainted with various parts of the country we may never have seen otherwise.”
“The work being done by devotees of Maa Umiya has touched the lives of several people. They have also spread awareness on gender equality,” PM Modi said.
Further, in his speech, PM Modi also extended his gratitude to the women of Mehsana District to spread the message of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. He said, “I want to especially thank women of Mehsana District, who have furthered the message of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.”
Even last month, a historical awareness programme was organised in the city to empower women by taking the pledge of educating the girl child and save the girl child on the birth anniversary of PM Modi.
During the event, a BJP leader had said that everyone in Haridwar shall have to resolve to improve the child sex ratio in the district in one year. The birth anniversary of the PM was being celebrated as ‘sewa sankalp diwas’ and the fortnight-long cleanliness drive was carried out in the district and across the state.
PM Modi also pitched for the Clean India campaign during today’s inauguration ceremony, He said, “I appeal to all devotees of Maa Umiya, to become Swachhagrahis and add strength to the Swachh Bharat Mission.”
