Narendra Modi in Russia: Prime Minister Modi addressed a Plenary Session of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 on Friday in Russia. The Prime Minister is in the country on the third leg of his four-nation visit. PM Modi while speaking at the session recalled Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor and said that Bollywood is very popular in Russia. He said that even the younger generation in Russia is familiar with the veteran actor. “Bollywood is very popular in Russia, I doubt if there is anyone in Russia even from the younger generation who does not know Raj Kapoor,” he said. Modi was the guest of honour at this year’s three-day Saint Petersburg Economic Forum. Speaking at the International Economic Forum, Modi highlighted various objectives in particularly underlining the trust in ‘India-Russia relationship’. He said that India and Russia’s relationship has grown stronger and deeper with time.

PM also added that the political will, political stability, and a clear vision has brought transformative reforms in India. PM Modi also zeroed the issue of Digital India and highlighted the initiative to close the digital divide persisting in India. PM said, “We started the ‘Digital India’ campaign to close the digital divide, as this divide can create a lot of problems in any society”. The PM added that the government’s aim is to bridge the digital divide, over the last three years, the impetus of the government to financial inclusion has been tremendous.

PM Modi also said that India is a fast growing economy and leading global agencies now have the same sentiment. He added that India is now among the top FDI destinations in the world and thereafter ended his speech by inviting Russian firms to invest there. The PM said, “125 crore people of India are inviting you- explore the opportunities in India”.
